When installing shock absorbers on '86-'15 XL models, it may be necessary to modify or space the chain guard/belt to ensure proper clearance.
A slightly longer-than-stock shock absorber can slightly alter the steering angle and make the ride more responsive.
A slightly shorter-than-stock shock absorber can slightly alter the steering angle and make the ride slower.
Heavy-duty applications recommended for motorcycles operated at the manufacturer's maximum load limit for more than 50% of the time.
Before purchasing or installing shock absorbers with a length other than OEM, verify that the wheel travel can be adjusted without causing interference, such as contact between the swingarm/axle and the exhaust or between the chain guard/belt and the tire.
